During the process of uplifting others, it is important to remember to care for yourself. It can be challenging to offer consistent, honest and sustained support to those in need if we ourselves are depleted and overwhelmed. These feelings can be subtle and may accumulate over time. It is important for clinicians to practice the tips we offer our clients to ensure we do not burn out.
Here are some common ways to reduce stress:
Accept your needs
Manage your time
Set aside time for yourself
Get enough sleep
Talk to someone if you are feeling overwhelmed by your work
Adjust your expectations
Don’t push yourself too hard.
Make time for fun
Set realistic boundaries
If you or someone you know is experiencing psychosis, here’s how to reach out. HeadsUp does not offer clinical services or emergency care.
